From Starwest Botanicals:
Our in-house Quality Control Laboratory conducts HPTLC testing to efficiently and accurately ensure product identity of all botanicals, herbs, and spices, including all cinnamon. We routinely test our products, and because Ceylon cinnamon is significantly more expensive and, in our experience (by testing many samples from suppliers and products sold in the marketplace), it is sadly not uncommon to be adulterated with other types of cinnamon and/or mislabeled entirely. Testing ensures the proper type, with one of the identifying marks of pure Ceylon cinnamon being its low coumarin level. HPTLC can accurately measure the chemical profile, giving insight into the amount of coumarin present, as well as matching a number of other marker compounds against known samples of each cinnamon species, to ensure proper identification. Therefore, we can guarantee that our customers will receive the cinnamon product we say it is, and as stated on our labels.
